Before you sign up

Does it cost money to use YPNIG? Is it true that YPNIG is going to charge to use the site?

YPNIG is a free site and will never require that you pay to continue using the site. In addition, if you choose to use YPNIG from your mobile device, please note that you will be responsible for any fees associated with internet usage and/or text messaging as determined by your mobile service provider.

What is the minimum age required to sign up for YPNIG?

In order to be eligible to sign up for YPNIG, people must be 13 years of age or older.

Can I create a joint YPNIG account or share a YPNIG account with someone else?

YPNIG accounts are for individual use. This means that we don't allow joint accounts. Additionally, you can only sign up for one YPNIG account per email address.

Since each account belongs to one person, we require everyone to use their real name on their account. This way, you always know who you're connecting with.

Creating your new account

How do I sign up for YPNIG?

If you don't have a YPNIG account, you can sign up for one in a few easy steps. To sign up for a brand new account, click on Sign Up at the top-right corner of any page, enter your username, name, birthday, gender, state, and email address into the form provided. Then pick a password.

After you complete the sign up form, we'll send an email to the address you provided. Just click the confirmation link to complete the sign up process.

What's the difference between signing in and signing up?

Sign up
If you don't have a YPNIG account, you can sign up for one in a few easy steps. To sign up for a brand new account, click on Sign Up at the top-right corner of any page, enter your username, name, birthday, gender, state, and email address into the form provided. Then pick a password.

Sign In
If you already have a YPNIG account, you can log in to your account from any page. Just click on Sign In at the top-right corner of any page, enter your email address and password into the section provided and click Sign In.

What is the minimum password strength? How can I make my password strong?

When creating a new password, be sure that it is at least 6 characters in length and that you use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks. If the password you entered is not strong enough, you may want to try mixing uppercase and lowercase letters or making your password longer.

Editing Your Settings

How do I permanently delete my account?

At this time, this feature is not available.

Where can I find my settings?

Click the account menu (down arrow) at the top right of any YPNIG page. A dropdown menu will expand with the following options:
  • Account Settings: Edit your basic preferences here (e.g. login email, password,and notifications).
  • Sign Out: Choose this option to log out safely.
  • Help Center: Find answers to common questions here.

How do I change my Profile picture?

Click the account menu (down arrow) at the top right of any YPNIG page. A dropdown menu will expand.
  • Choose Account Settings from the options
  • Select My Profile Picture from the left side menu
  • Click Choose file/Browse to select an image from your computer/mobile device

Where can I find my settings?

How do I change which email address YPNIG notifications are sent to?

You can change the email address we send notifications to from your Account Settings page.
  1. Open the account dropdown menu at the top right corner of YPNIG and choose Account Settings
  2. Click Change email, enter in the new email address, and then click Save Changes
  3. Look for an email from YPNIG to confirm your new email address

Changing Your Name and Birthday

How do I change my birthday?

To change your date of birth:
  1. Open your Account Settings page
  2. In the Birthday section, enter your real birthday
  3. Save your changes

How do I change my name?

To edit the name listed on your account: Go to your Account Settings page
  • Click on the Name section, type in your name, and save your changes
  • Note:
    • To help make sure that everyone uses their real name, we limit the number of times you can change your name.
    • If your name is changed by a YPNIG representative, this change is considered final. This means you will no longer have the option to manually change your name.
    • If you weren't able to change your name, we may be able to help.

    Username Basics

    What are usernames?

    You can customize the web address for your profile or YPNIG Page by selecting a unique username. It will appear in the location bar of your browser after "http://www.yellowpages.net.ng/" when you view your profile or Page.

    A common example of a username is some variation on your name. For example, someone named John Doe might choose "john.doe" for his username so his friends can visit his profile by going to www.yellowpages.net.ng/john.doe. Similarly, you can choose an extension for your Page address that resembles your Page's name to make it easier for people to find you on YPNIG (ex: http://www.yellowpages.net.ng/lentarex).

    Who can see my username?

    Your username is public. Since your username is found in your profile or Page URL, anyone that is able to navigate to your profile, Page or search for you can see your username.

    Selecting a Username

    How do I customize my timeline or Page address? Where can I claim a username?

    Customize the address for your profile or YPNIG Page by choosing a username. You are required to choose a username when signing up on YPNIG. You can set a username for your Page by doing the following:
    1. Click Edit your profile on your Page
    2. In the left tabbed menus, select Basic Information
    3. In the Custom URL section, enter a username of your choice
    4. YPNIG will automatically tell you if your username choice is available
    5. If it is, click Save Username to confirm your choice.

    What are the guidelines around creating a custom username?

    Here are a few things to remember when you create a custom username:
    • You can't claim a username someone else is already using.
    • Your username should be as close as possible to your true name (ex: Jdoe or Jane.Doe).
    • Choose a username you'll be happy with for the long term. Usernames are not transferable and you can't change your username.
    • Usernames can only contain alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), a dash ("-") or a period (".").
    • Usernames must be at least 4 characters long.
    • Your username must adhere to YPNIG's Terms

    The username I want isn't available.

    If the username you want is already taken or not approved, you'll need to pick a different one. In addition, make sure the username you're trying to claim follows our guidelines for custom usernames. Note that we prevent certain words from being included in usernames.

    How many usernames does each person get?

    Users can only have one username for their personal account. Similarly, YPNIG Page administrators can only have one username for each Page.

    Can YPNIG take back a username that has already been claimed?

    YPNIG reserves the right to remove and/or reclaim any username at any time for any reason. Please read YPNIG's Terms for more information.

    How do I change my username?

    At this time YPNIG does not provide a feature to change usernames on personal accounts and YPNIG Pages.

    How does YPNIG prevent username squatting?

    Username squatting is when people create new accounts just to take advantage of grabbing a username. Here's what we do prevent username squatting:
    • To create a custom username, you need to have a verified YPNIG account
    • We have a no transferability policy. You can't secure a username on one account and then transfer it to another.
    • If we determine that someone is username squatting, that username will be reclaimed by YPNIG.

    Why was my custom username removed?

    It's possible your custom username was removed for not meeting one or more of our guidelines for custom usernames. You can select a new custom username in your account settings (personal accounts) and/or in your edit profile (Pages). We're sorry for the inconvenience.

    How do i unlock my pre-booked username?

    We provided an opportunity for brand owners to limit access to their trademarks so that they could be used on their own YPNIG Pages by pre-booking a username. To unlock a pre-booked username:
    1. Click Edit your profile on your Page
    2. In the left tabbed menus, select Basic Information
    3. In the Custom URL section, click on the link that indicates setting a pre-booked username
    4. In the box that expands, enter your unlock code and YPNIG will display your pre-booked username in an input box
    5. Edit the username to your choice if desired
    6. YPNIG will automatically tell you if your username choice is available
    7. If it is, click Save Username to confirm your choice.

    About YPNIG Pages & Listings

    What is a YPNIG Page?

    Pages are for businesses, organizations and brands to share their stories and connect with people. You can customize Pages by adding apps, posting stories, hosting events and more. Engage and grow your audience by posting regularly. People who connect with your Page will get updates in their Updates feeds.

    You can create and manage a YPNIG Page from your personal account. Please note that only the official representative of an organization, business, celebrity or band is permitted to create a Page.

    What is a YPNIG Listing?

    Listing are for web sites, businesses, organizations and brands to share their stories, connect with people, get user reviews, ratings. You can customize Listing by adding apps, posting stories, hosting events and more. Engage and grow your audience by posting regularly. People who connect with your Listing will get updates in their Updates feeds.

    You can create and manage a YPNIG Listing from your personal account. Please note that only the official representative of an organization, business,or web site is permitted to create a Listing.

    How are Pages different from Listings? Which one should I create?

    Pages
    • Pages allow real organizations, businesses, celebrities and brands to communicate broadly with people who connect with them. Pages may only be created and managed by official representatives.
    • Pages cannot be rated or reviewed by users
    • Pages do not come pre-installed with YPNIG chat
    • Pages do not have map & directions feature

    Listings
    • Listings come pre-installed with user rating feature, user review feature and 3000+ industry-wide categories
    • Users can map a Listing's location and also get driving directions
    • Listings are optimized for chat & messages
    • Listings can be saved by a user
    • Listings occupy the pages, local and web sites sections on a search results page
    • Listings are upgradeable. This means they can be featured in more prominent positions on search results pages

    How are YPNIG Pages & Listings different from personal profiles?

    Profiles are for personal, non-commercial use only. They represent individuals and must be held under an individual name. Pages & Listings are for professional or official use, and allow an organization, business, celebrity, band or web site to maintain a presence on YPNIG. You may only create YPNIG Pages & Listings to represent real organizations of which you are an authorized representative.

    In addition, Pages & Listings are managed by admins who have personal YPNIG profiles. Pages & Listings are not separate YPNIG accounts and do not have separate login information from your profile. They are merely different entities on our site. Once you have set up a Page or Listing within your profile, you may add other admins to help you manage this Page or Listing. People who choose to connect to your Page or Listing won't be able to see that you are the Page admin or have any access to your personal account.

    I have a YPNIG Page. Can it be converted into a Listing or vice versa?

    It is currently not possible to convert YPNIG Pages into Listings or vice versa. We recommend that you create a Page or Listing as the case may be and notify your fans about it.

    Where will Pages & Listings appear on the site?

    Every Page & Listings will appear in search results on YPNIG. When someone connects with a Page or Listing, that Page or Listing will appear in the Connections section of their Page. Additionally, all Pages & Listings can be found in the Pages & Listings Directories respectively

    Where can I see a list of all the Pages & Listings I manage?

    View a list of all the Pages & Listings you manage all in one place by hovering your mouse over Pages in the bookmark menu on the left side of your Updates feed and clicking More.

    How many Pages & Listings can I manage?

    There is no limit to the number of Pages & Listings you can manage. You can manage as many Pages & Listings as you have been given the authority to manage. The Page or Listing admin who initially creates the Page or Listing reserves the right to add or remove other Page or Listing admins at their discretion.

    Finding Pages & Listings

    How do I connect with a Page or Listing?

    If you see a Page or Listing that interests you-either on a Pages profile's connection section, in an Updates feed story, or in an ad-you can click Connect in that story or ad to connect with the Page or click on the link to that particular Page or Listing to learn more. Once on the Page, you may click the Connect button that appears to the right of the Page name.

    You can also search for Pages & Listings by visiting our Pages & Listings Directories or browse to easily see your Pages, or view all Pages on the site.

    Lastly, when you search for a term on YPNIG, you can filter the results to show only Pages, Web sites or Listings by clicking the Pages , Local or Websites link in the right column. Each Page search result will show a Connect link to its right.

    How do I disconnect from a Page or Listing?

    You can disconnect from a Page or Listing by taking the following steps:
    1. Find the Page or Listing by entering it's name in the search bar in the upper section of any page
    2. Hover your mouse on the Connected link to the right of the Page's name and click on the Disconnect link that appears

    You can also navigate to the Page or Listing by entering its name into the search bar in the upper section of a page or entering its URL into the location bar in your browser. Once on the page, hover your mouse on the Connected link to the right of the Page's name and click on the Disconnect link that appears

    How many Pages & Listings can I Connect with?

    You can connect with up to 5000 Pages and/or Listings.

    Why are there certain Pages & Listings I cannot Connect with?

    Any Page or Listing with content that is age sensitive will not be available to those who do not meet that age requirement.

    How do I share a Page or Listing with friends?

    To share a Page (ex: Lentarex) with others on Facebook or Twitter select Share from the menu in the upper-right corner of the Page to the right of the Page's name. You'll see a pop-up window that lets you choose how and with whom you want to share. Follow the onsite directions.
    You can also share any update displayed in your Updates feed and on a Pages' Timeline by clicking the Share link at the bottom of the update. Pick one of the following options from the dropdown menu:

    • On your Pages' Timeline: Choosing this option creates a post on your Pages' Timeline.
    • On your Connection's Timeline: This option lets you post the content to a Connection's profile (timeline). Click on the Share link to the right of the Connection's name. (Sharing Disabled means that your Connection has disabled sharing posts to their Timeline)
    • On Facebook: This option lets you post the content to Facebook.
    • On Twitter: This option lets you post the content to Twitter.

    How do i save a Listing? Where do i find my saved Listing?

    YPNIG saves all your unsaved recently viewed listings and allows you to save listings so you can view them anytime. Use the following steps to save listings and view saved listings:
    1. On a search results page: Hover your mouse on a local or web site listing and click on the Save link that appears at the bottom left of the listing box
    2. On a Listing's page: Click on the Save this listing link that appears as a double star in the top right corner to the right of the Page's name
    3. View your saved listings anytime by clicking on the Searches & Listings link in the left column of your profile home page

    Create Your Page or Listing

    How can I create a Page or Listing?

    If you are the official representative of an organization, business, web site, celebrity, or band, you can create a Page or create a Listing to represent your organization on YPNIG.

    Who can create a Page or Listing?

    If you are the official representative of an organization, business, web site, celebrity, or band,you can create a Page or create a Listing

    Only the official representative of an organization, business, web site, celebrity, or band may create a YPNIG Page or Listing. The Page or Listing creator can then add other representatives to help them manage the Page or Listing. Each Page or Listing admin will be able to update and edit their Pages from their own accounts.

    In addition, Page names may not solely use the generic term for the category of products or services you offer (e.g. "hamburger" or "shoes"). Those Page names that merely refer to generic categories (e.g. "Studio" instead of "Jane's Musical Studio") may have their administrative rights automatically removed. Also note that once a Page or Listing has been created, you will not be able to edit the Page or Listing name.

    If you would like to create a YPNIG presence for an organization, business, web site, celebrity, or band and you are not officially authorized to do so, please refrain from creating a Page or Listing for them.

    I can't create my Page or Listing

    The name I'd like to create a Page or Listing for is blocked. How can I create a Page or Listing for this artist, organization, web site, brand, or business?

    Only the official representative may create a Page or Listing for an artist, brand, organization, web site or business. If you are the authorized representative, you will need to contact us from an address associated with this artist, organization, web site or business .     How many Pages & Listings can I manage?

    How do I add or change a profile picture for my YPNIG Page or Listing?

    To add or remove a profile picture for your YPNIG Page: From the top of your Page, click Edit your profile Select Profile Picture in the left sidebar
  • Click Choose File and select a photo to upload from your computer
  • In your Page's Photo gallery, you may click on Use this as profile photo at the top of a photo's page to use the image displayed as your Page's profile photo

    To remove a profile photo: From the top of your Page, click Edit your profile Select Profile Picture in the left sidebar
  • Click Remove picture link below the Profile Picture thumbnail under the page name
  • How do I add contact information to my business's YPNIG Page or Listing?

    1. At the top of your Page, click Edit your profile
    2. Select Basic Information
    3. Add text to the fields of your Page's Basic Information tab
    4. Click Save Changes

    How can I remove an information field that I don't want appearing on the Page or Listing I admin?

    You can remove an information field by using the following steps:
    1. At the top of your Page, click Edit your profile
    2. Select Basic Information
    3. Delete the content within that field in your Page's Basic Information tab
    4. Click Save Changes

    How can I get a username for my Page or Listing?

    If you're an admin of a YPNIG Page, you'll be able to choose a username for it by taking the following steps:
    1. At the top of your Page, click Edit your profile
    2. Select Basic Information in the left side bar
    3. In the Custom URL section: Enter a username of your choice in the username field
    4. YPNIG will automatically tell you if your username choice is available as you type it in the username field
    5. if it is, confirm your choice by clicking Save Username
    Note: You cannot change your Page's username once you set it.

    How do I invite friends to my Page & Listing?

    To invite friends to your Page:
    1. Share your Page's custom URL with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, on other networks, via email to your contacts, via mobile phone sms

    What is the difference between Published and Unpublished Page?

    While filling out your YPNIG Page or Listing you may want to unpublish it. When you are ready to show it to the public, you need to publish your Page to have it display on the site.

    While your Page is unpublished, you'll see a dialog at the top of your YPNIG Page indicating that your Page is not currently visible to non-admins. You can also publish/unpublish your Page in the Manage Permissions section of the Edit your profile at any time by checking the Page Visibilty checkbox to unpublish it and unchecking the same checkbox to publish it.

    Setting your YPNIG Page to unpublished will hide it from non-admins, including people who are connected with your Page. Your Page won't be visible until you set it back to published.

    Creating and Moderating Page Posts, Posting to Your Page

    How can I reach my audience through their Updates feeds?

    As a Page or Listing admin, you can update the people who are connected to your Page by using the sharing tool located on at the top of your Page or Listing's Timeline. You can update your status, post photos/albums, share a link and upload a video. These posts will appear on your Page or Listing's timeline as well as in the Updates feeds of people who've already connected to your Page or Listing.

    Who will see my Page or Listing posts in their Updates feed?

    When you post to your Page or Listing, your post will go to the Updates feeds of people who are connected to your Page or Listing. If you sponsor a Page post, it can also go to people who are connected to your Page. Those who aren't signed in to YPNIG can also see your posts on your Page's Timeline.

    How do i use YPNIG as my Page or Listing? How do i use YPNIG as my personal account?

    YPNIG can be used as a Page or a personal account. This means you will be posting, sharing, liking, deleting and commenting as your Page or your personal account.

    To use YPNIG as a Page:
    Click the account menu (down arrow) at the top right of any YPNIG page. A drop-down menu will expand.
    • Choose Use YPNIG as Page from the options
    • Choose a Page from the box that appears
    • To use YPNIG as your personal account, select Use YPNIG as [First Last] from the drop-down menu
    Note: Use YPNIG as [First Last] appears in the drop-down menu only when you are currently using YPNIG as a Page.

    Invite People to Your Page or Listing

    How can I get more Fans for my Page or Listing?

    Email Customers:
    Email your customers to let them know about your Page and encourage them to Connect to it so they can receive updates from your Page in their Updates feeds.

    Customize Your Page Address:
    Choose your Page's username and add your custom Page address to your web site, business cards and advertising materials so people can easily find your Page.

    Use YPNIG Ads:
    Use YPNIG Ads and Upgraded Listings to target and reach people who are likely to be interested in your Page.

    How can people find and Connect with Pages & Listings?

    Pages appear in Updates feed distribution for various actions taken on the Page. They may also appear in YPNIG ads. People will see these stories and ads and can click Connect in the story or ad to connect with the Page. Alternatively, if someone sees a Page or Listing they like on a Pages or Listing's profile, they can visit the Page or Listing by clicking on the Page's profile picture or name. They can also search for the Page by name, either within YPNIG or from a global search engine.

    Can I invite people who don't use YPNIG to Connect with my Page or Listing?

    Pages & Listings are public spaces, so people searching for a particular artist, web site or company on the World Wide Web will find the Page's YPNIG presence and be able to view that Page or Listing's photos, videos, map, reviews and basic information. In order to view a Page or Listing in its entirety, connect with a Page or Listing, post on it, or chat with the Listing's admins, the person must log into YPNIG.

    Promote Your Page or Listing

    Where will Pages & Listings appear on the site?

    Every Page & Listing will appear in search results on YPNIG. Listings may appear on the home page when a user is not signed into YPNIG. When someone connects with a Page or Listing, that Page or Listing will appear in the Connections section of their profile. Additionally, all Pages can be found in the Page & Listing Directory.

    Which Pages or Listings will be the most successful?

    The Pages or Listings with the freshest, most engaging content stand to gain the most from this new product-since each track played, video viewed, review written and event attended can generate Updates feed stories that propagate through the network. YPNIG will accelerate the rate at which unknown entities become popular, and it will also fortify the position of those who are already recognized highly among users. Whether large or small, all artists, businesses, web sites, organizations, and brands have the potential for exponential distribution through the network if they can engage users.

    How do I get a Page or Listing Badge? How can I promote my Page or Listing to people off of YPNIG?

    The "Find Us on YPNIG" badge provides your business or organization a way to promote your Page off of our website, and help direct your customers to your presence on YPNIG. This Badge can be applied in-store or on location, on the web, and in print material. You can learn how to create a badge for your Page or Listing by visiting the Promotion Guidelines page.

    How can I increase my total amount of Fans and engagement with my Page or Listing?

    YPNIG Pages, Listings, and the natural distribution through Updates feed are free to Page admins. Page admins will have an opportunity to incrementally increase distribution as well with paid advertising. Page or Listing admins can create YPNIG Ads to drive traffic to a YPNIG Page or Listing.
